I decided to go a different route today and see what a Korean cafe was like.  Cafe M should not be confused with M Cafe near Marunouchi.

Since it was a hot day I went with the chilled noodle bowl (880 yen). It used Korean cold noodles which are quite long, slippery and chewy (you have to be careful not to choke on them!).  The server offered to cut the noodles with scissors to make it easier to eat.  The broth was a refreshing vinegary and slightly sweet broth, similar to Japanese sunomono (usually veggies or seafood).  It came with extra vinegar in the case that the floating ice cubes thinned it out too much.  Upon an internet search, this broth should contain Korean dashi made from boiled shiitakes and dry anchovies.  Indeed, there was a flavor besides just sugar and vinegar.  The toppings were a slice of tomato, egg and cucumber.  I asked about a hard boiled egg because it was in the photo, but they said it was just a photo.  To make up for this I was given a drink on the house. I chose the healthy 7 grain...it was sweet and milky, almost like bubble tea.  With bits of walnut and almond mixed throughout, I ate it like soup.  It was a nice contrast to the vinegary soup.  Being a Korean cafe, the K-pop playing was fitting.
